Story Telling Sunday - A Jubilee tale.
Arriving fashionably late to the party, I bring you a tale from a previous Jubilee celebration. Back in 1977 when the Queen celebrated her Silver Jubilee I was 7. My school celebrated with a summer fete that was Jubilee themed, including a children's fancy dress competition. I don't remember who came up with the idea but it was decided that I would go as a Jubilee bag! I suspect it may have been to do with the fact that my Dad worked in a factory that produced cardboard boxes so had access to large quantities of paper and card.
Apparently I came 2nd! I don't recall much but do remember it was quite difficult to walk in.
My younger brother also entered but he refused to play along with the Jubilee theme and so went as Robin (side-kick of Batman)
Dad created the card from a large cardboard box, built around my brothers trike!
This story was bought to you as part of Sian's story telling Sunday. Do pop over to check out some other great tales.
I hope you have all had a relaxing Sunday and to those of you enjoying an extra long weekend, have a jubileetastic time!

lovely story and great costumes. We have similar photos of the silver jubilee fancy dress.
Great outfits Lynn but your 'bag' does look difficult to walk in lol.
Brilliant costumes. Your brothers Batmobile is a triumph! Great story.
Amazing costumes. A jubilee bag had me chuckling!
Great costumes!!! The bag was a clever idea :-)
Oh, brilliant - another Jubillee fancy Dress story! What is it about Jubilees that makes everyone want to dress up?! Very clever costumes too, captured in photos with a lovely nostalgic look to them now. I love it.
Love the costumes, it's reminded me of the time I dressed up as a Pierot at one of our summer fetes!
Love the idea of the Jubilee bag...and the batmobile built around the trike is genius!!
Alison xx
Fancy dress never really changes does it?! You make a very smart Jubilee Bag!
That sounds fun - love your bag outfit! :)
Well it was certainly an original idea for a costume. My brother also had a very large box for his Jacki-in-the-box outfit. You're so lucky to have these photos. Sadly we don't have any from the 1977 celebrations.
your costumes are so creative I love them! Looks like a great time was had by all
Fun costumes - how fun to have the photos :)
How brilliant you have the photographs for the story. Such clever ideas, I may have to borrow the paper bag costume idea for my granddaughter. She loves bags!
Thank you for sharing this story.
